Biography of Director

Andrew West


Andrew is a passionate and trained horticulturalist, with over 30 years experience of both purchasing & operations, from within the Garden & DIY industry. Prior roles have included, Director of Purchasing at Dobbies; Head of Purchasing at Hillier; Head of Purchasing for Home & Garden categories at Wyevale as well as Head of Category at Wickes and Regional Manager & Garden Centre Manager at Country Gardens. ​

Andrew brings immense knowledge of suppliers as well as exceptional negotiating skills and a deep understanding of the market.​

In addition:

  • Excellent experience of category management across diverse categories and market places​
  • Highly proficient in data sources that can build a category plan and effective use of market intelligence​
  • Expertise in merchandise range planning – determining the right range for the customer demographic​
  • Accomplished in good procurement practice​
  • Supplier management best practice​
  • Invaluable insight and experience from the retailer’s perspective​
  • Ability to coach and mentor individuals to drive improved approaches and behaviours​
  • Robust experience of team leadership, motivating and coaching staff within a complex and diverse environment​
  • Project Management delivering projects to plan, on time and in budget

Andrew is also a non-executive director of Organic Enterprises Limited (the commercial arm of the charity Garden Organic)​
